Overview

We are pleased to announce that SPSS is now available for Teachers College faculty and students to use at home. Each member of the Teachers College faculty and student community is entitled to one licensed copy for their home use. Please note that this copy of SPSS will expire in March 2019, at which time a new license code will be distributed. Please click the links below to access the license key and the appropriate installation media for your computer.

Accessing SPSS?

SPSS is free to install and use for TC students and faculty through the MyTC Portal. (Staff members contact The Dept. Academic Technology at acs@tc.columbia.edu)
To access SPSS, go to myTC homepage» Software and Tools in the TC bookmarks on left lower corner» SPSS home use for students and faculty.
Clicking on the above will open an info-sheet with information about the current version of SPSS, download instructions and activation key.

Check the prerequisites

1) Java will be required on your system in order to install SPSS. Please access the latest version of Java for your desktop from this link prior to installing SPSS.

2) Determine the type of operating system you have:

If you have a Mac operating system, you can skip to the step below.

If you have a Windows operating system, go to "click start» right-click computer » click properties" to verify if you have the 32bit vs 64bit issue.

3) Check if you have the latest drivers for running SPSS. You can click on the link below for downloading and installing latest drivers.

Install SPSS

1) Download SPSS v25 using the appropriate link for your operating system from below:

SPSS for Windows 32 bit

SPSS for Windows 64 bit

SPSS for Mac OS X

2) Installing SPSS

Windows users: Right-click the downloaded file and choose "extract all." Open the resulting folder and run "setup.exe."
Mac users: double click the downloaded file, click on "SPSS_Statistics_Installer."
Choose "Authorized User License" for the license type during the licensing authorization described below.
When the installation has completed, please choose "license my product now", and enter the activation code into the IBM SPSS License Activation Wizard when prompted.

3) Locate activation code

The activation code can be found on the info-sheet when you go to your myTC homepage» Software and Tools in the TC bookmarks in left lower corner» SPSS home use for students and faculty.
The license key is only available to TC students and staff and is updated periodically.

Please note that although you may get messages that your SPSS program will stop working at the end of March, there will be a grace period, and SPSS will not expire until the end of April of each year, before which time a new license code will be distributed.
